8 Days Gorilla, Chimpanzee Trekking and Wildlife safari

Explore Tour

Gorilla Trekking being the ultimate safari activity is always one to highlight any safari however on the 8 Days Safari is another treasure in Chimpanzee trekking in Kibale Forest National park.

Having one of the highest concentration of Chimpanzee in Africa Chimpanzee trekking in Kibaale becomes the other very adventurous activity.

This can be organized for a half day trekking experience or a full day habituation experience depending on the time one has available as we get to spend time with our closest primates.

This 8 Day Safari further covers 2 other wildlife parks in Queen Elizabeth and L. Mburo which give you the ultimate diversity while on the game drives or the cruise on the Nile.

We are assured of seeing Giraffes, Elephants, Hippos, Zebra, Crocodiles, Buffalos, various birds; depending on our luck the Lions and leopards will not miss the party too!

Advance Preparations

Both Gorilla and Chimpanzee trekking require Permit acquisitions in advance as limited numbers access these primates per day. This is further a Combo of great destinations that requires enough planning for the ultimate 8 Day Marathon Safari.

Tour Plan

Lake Mburo being the smallest and closest park to the city of Kampala makes our safari choose it as the first destination. Its small size doesn’t affect its wildlife diversity as its a wonder in its own league.  En-route we stop over at the equator before proceeding and arriving in time for Lunch at the lodge. After Lunch we have a boat ride on Lake Mburo for chance to see some Buffaloes, Crocodiles, birds, hippos and then a late afternoon nature walk.

Dinner and over night within Lake Mburo national park.

Meal plan: Lunch & Dinner

The day begins with an early Game drive before departing for home of the Gorillas; Bwindi impenetrable Forest. while on the game drive we expect to see animals such as the Giraff, Buffaloes, Antelopes and Zebra with ease before we exit the park.

An ever green beautiful scenery of the country side as we drive further west of the capital- Kampala snacking on the way enjoying the ride. We may choose to have lunch on the way depending the time we departed from Lake Mburo or as we arrive late afternoon decide to have late a late lunch in Bwindi. We have an early rest as we prepare for the next day.

Dinner and overnight in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park.

Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

The highlight of the 8 Days Gorilla trekking, Chimpanzee trekking and Wildlife safari is on this day. After an early morning breakfast we drive or walk to the park headquarters depending on the side of the park for a meet and greet and briefing on the do’s and don’ts of the trekking experience.

We are organized into our respective pre-booked groups to trek and head out for the life changing experience. Gorilla trekking is a very exciting exercise that requires a minimum level of fitness to endure but worth every sweat and toil. It involves walking in the thick Bwindi Impenetrable forest following trails once in a while and just creating way where isnt sometimes.

Being a tedious but fun and fascinating experience there are people from the local communities availed from the starting points to help as porters to any one who may need a push, a pull or a carry where it gets harder to access. This porter comes in great use for even the physically fit persons as it gets slippery in some areas.

After a few hours in the jungle following the trails of the Mountain gorillas previous night sleep position, we eventually find them and “vouloir” the moment of truth; the unexplainable moment; the experience comparable to none…

…… the rest is for your imagination but just know there “sits on guard the head of pack; the silver back for most of the time (an hour) you are there!”

If possible an evening visit to the local communities; life is different and comparable to none out here.

Dinner and over night.

Meal plan: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

Day 3 involved going to higher altitudes of upto 2,607 meters above sea leavel which would be the reverse for day 4 as we descend into the western arm of the Rift valley being Queen Elizabeth National park having its highest point at 1,350 meters above sea leave. Second biggest park in Uganda; this park hosts a variety of animals not forgetting crater lakes and the Kazinga channel which is a highlight in the activities done while here.

Arriving in time for Lunch then doing an evening game drive in the Southern part of Queen Elizabeth being Ishasha sector. This is trademarked or well known for being the rarest only place in Uganda with tree climbing lions among several other animals; with luck we will find them up the trees.

Dinner and over night.

Meal plan: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner.

Early morning game drive to catch up with the morning hunts and grazing activities. This will happen so early into the late morning as it will also involve switching from the Southern part of the park into the Northern part of Queen Elizabeth National park.

Having lunch and preparing for the boat ride in the afternoon on the Kazinga channel. This is an interesting ride as it gives one a chance to see many animals as they come to the water banks for water such as elephants, buffaloes, several birds, crocodiles and other reptiles.

Look out in the tree tops of the tress on the banks  as you cant fail to see some African fish eagles. Taking about 2 to 3 hours on the Channel before we head back for an evening sundowner before dinner and overnight.

Meal plan: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

Another chance to have a game drive in the Northern part of this savannah grassland with expectation to see more Lions, buffaloes, antelopes, elephants, warthogs and if lucky the leopard but also visit the various salt crater lakes as we eventually exit  and proceed to Kibale forest National park.

Towards Kibale, the drive is designed to take you through the crater lakes area which is the southern part of the borders of the  park. This a fascinating area to visit along with the rich history of their formation and existence.

Arriving in the late afternoon already in site of the home largest concentration of chimpanzees in Africa the Kibale Forest National Park.

Dinner and over night.

Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Today you will experience some serious primate business! Kibale Forest National Park boasts the highest number of primate species in the world, including the chimpanzees.

Approximately 5,000 chimpanzees live in the wild in Uganda, which makes it a perfect place to spot them! An experienced ranger will take you chimp tracking in the morning. The activity begins at 8.00 am with a briefing regarding the rules of trekking the chimpanzees after which you set off to search for them in the forest. Once you locate the chimpanzees, you will have a full hour with them.

Later return to the lodge for lunch then have a evening visit to the local communities or drive to the wetlands to see some endangered bird species.

Dinner and over night.

Meal plan: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

After long and action packed 8 Days Trekking both the Gorilla and Chimpanzee, game drives in two different parks, boat rides, driving and walking in high altitude areas, our experiences for the Safari are unforgettable.

Along the way, you would enjoyed the ambiance of not only the surroundings but also the humor and welcoming nature of Uganda. “The Pearl of Africa.”
